It is very important we put pressure on Brian Fitzpatrick to vote “yes” on H.R. 38, the National Reciprocity bill, which would force any state which issues licenses to carry firearms to recognize the licenses of any other state. As the bill is currently worded it would remarkably allow a New Jersey resident with a permit from states like Florida, Utah, or New Hampshire to legally carry in New Jersey. This bill will be voted on by the full House on Wednesday. To reiterate what NRA is asking, “Please IMMEDIATELY contact Brian Fitzpatrick at (202) 225-4276 and via email, and urge him to vote for H.R. 38!”
You all might remember the Shaneen Allen case from a few years ago. What happened to her is unfortunately not an isolated incident. While there’s no doubt in my mind H.R. 38 will be litigated through the federal courts, since just after the Civil War the federal government has had a constitutionally authorized role to play in protecting the civil rights of Americans. If we prevail on this, and we should, people like Ms. Allen will have the law on their side, and no longer have to depend on the mercy of politicians to get justice. That will be a good thing for all of us.
